Privacy Policy & Data Protection Register Description

Prepared on August 19, 2026. Last updated on August 19, 2026.

This is Handmade Daylight’s data protection register description and privacy policy, prepared in accordance with the Finnish Personal Data Act (Sections 10 and 24) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Data Controller

Handmade Daylight is run by an independent developer. You may contact us via the feedback form on the home page.

2. Name of the Register

Feedback and Usage Data.

Note: Handmade Daylight does not maintain an actual customer or user register, as the service does not require registration and does not permanently collect users’ personal data. The data described below is generated only through use of the feedback form and through third-party technical services.

3. Legal Basis and Purpose of Processing Personal Data

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the legal basis for processing is the data controller’s legitimate interest: providing the service, responding to feedback, and understanding aggregate use of the website. Data is not used for automated decision-making or profiling.

4. Data Content of the Register

The data processed consists of:

  • Location data (latitude and longitude): stored only in the user’s own browser (local storage), never on our servers. Daylight brightness is calculated entirely within the browser.
  • Feedback form messages: sent by email to the site owner and may be logged temporarily on the server for the purpose of delivering the message. The form does not ask for a name or email address, so feedback is anonymous unless the user includes identifying details in the message itself.
  • Visitor statistics: Vercel Analytics collects anonymous aggregate visit counts and page usage without cookies or tracking users across other websites.
  • IP address: transmitted as part of ordinary web traffic to OpenStreetMap when map tiles are loaded.

5. Regular Sources of Data

Users provide location data themselves via the location picker (the data stays in the browser) and may submit feedback via the feedback form. Visitor statistics and the IP address associated with loading map tiles are generated automatically through use of the website.

6. Regular Disclosure and Transfer of Data

Data is not regularly disclosed to third parties for marketing purposes. However, the website relies on the following third-party services, to which data may be transmitted as part of their technical operation:

Processing by these services may also take place outside the EU/EEA; further details can be found in the privacy policies linked above.

7. Principles for Protection of the Register

Processing is carried out with due care. Data temporarily stored through the feedback form is protected appropriately and is only handled by those whose duties require it. Location data stored in the user’s browser never transfers to the data controller.

8. Right of Access and Right to Rectification

Users have the right to check any data stored about them and to request correction of inaccurate data. Because feedback is anonymous by default, processing such a request may require the user to provide sufficient additional information (e.g. the approximate time and content of the message) to locate the data. Requests must be submitted in writing to the data controller. The data controller may ask the requester to verify their identity if necessary, and will respond within the time period set out in the GDPR (generally within one month).

9. Other Rights Related to the Processing of Personal Data

Users have the right to request the erasure of their data (“the right to be forgotten”), as well as other rights under the GDPR, such as the right to restriction of processing in certain situations. Requests must be submitted in writing to the data controller in the same manner as described in Section 8.

10. Cookie Policy

Handmade Daylight does not use cookies. The Vercel Analytics visitor tracking used on the site operates without cookies and does not link collected data to an individual user or to other websites.

11. External Links and Services

The website loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap. As with any web request, OpenStreetMap’s servers receive the user’s IP address when map tiles are loaded. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services (such as OpenStreetMap or Vercel); their policies can be reviewed via the links provided in Section 6.
